I started my career as a Registered General Nurse in the NHS, primarily working in General Medicine. During this time I also worked with patients in the Intensive & Cardiac Care Units, Oncology, Haematology, Infectious diseases, Burns and Terminally ill care.
I then left to work in Psychiatry. I had many years experience working in Acute Psychiatry; Drug & Alcohol Detoxification and Rehabilitation; Forensic Psychiatry; Rehabilitation; Group work as well as Caseload & Ward/Team Management. I eventually specialised in the field of Substance misuse from 1993; Employed primarily as a Substance Misuse Counsellor/CPN, I was promoted to Clinical Manager in 1995 and again to Operational Manager in 1998.
I left the NHS to set up in self employment as a psychotherapist & Trainer, also providing Supervision for practising Counsellors, Social Workers, Probation & Nursing staff
Having relocated to Dorset, I have set up “Quay Therapy”, a private practice
delivering Psychotherapy & Counselling, Supervision & Workshops.
Further Professional Training:
As a member of the BACP & NMC, I have a high regard for on going professional development & receive regular supervision as well as on going training. Previous training courses have included: Solution Focus Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing Techniques,Therapeutic Work with Sexual Abuse Survivors, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodrama, Gestalt, Psychotherapy, Supervision, Therapeutic Work with Individuals,Teaching & Assessing, Care & Management of Persons with HIV & AIDS Related Conditions.
Being NMC Registered & a member of the BACP, my practice is bound by their Code of Ethics and Practice and I am subject to a complaints procedures.
